Internet and e-mail has reduced the whole world to a global village by connecting the remote severs and terminals with leased lines and radio communicating devices, paving way to a new era of an ‘always on line ‘open source society, MWEB Manicaland Province Manager has said.
Speaking at a colorful business seminar hosted by IT Zimbabwe held at Mt View hotel last Friday ,under the theme ‘harnessing E-business strategies for sustainable business,’Mr Flint Madziya also touched on a very interesting E-technology platform that should see E-platforms transforming their whole outlook making life easier in sharing information.
He said those who believe they know how the information highway can shape the future should review a little history about RedTacton technology. ‘RedTacton is a new Human Area Networking technology that uses the surface of the human body as a safe, high speed network transmission path. RedTacton chips are embedded into machines or can be carried by human beings on their neck or in their pockets. They contain a transmitter and receiver built to transmit and receive any form of data by physical contact to a person, a computer or a cell phone. A communications path can be created with a simple touch, automatically initiating the flow of data between a body-centric electronic device and a computer that is embedded in the environment. For example, two people equipped with RedTacton devices could exchange data just by shaking hands. A wide range of human actions like grasping, walking, sitting down, or standing in a particular place can be used to trigger RedTacton to start a networked process. It is more personalized on security because it is a one-to-one service tailored to the individual needs of the user other than blue tooth and Wi-Fi that broadcast transmission to everyone within a given range. One can transmit data up to about 10Megabites per second He added.
Also present at the function was Mr J. Mavhusa-Branch Manager Kingdom Bank Mutare and Ms Pedzisai from Kingdom Bank. Ms Pedzisai said with E-banking one can inquire balance 24hours a day on cell phones or even do cash transfer on internet world over.’ This type of banking brings convenience to customers, save costs and time,’she said adding that this all can be done at the comfort of one’s home. She also said the bank has introduced the ‘go mula’ joint facility between their bank and Econet where one can do airtime for econet and E-banking for internet.
Clever Tembo from I.T Zimbabwe said with E-marketing all business that your business needs can be done on-line. These include branding, advertising, promotions and offer technical support. He said E-marketing is flexible and is very cost effective.
Also present were prominent business people like Mr Baxter from Baxter Paints, Mr Torindoh from Mutare Garments, Mr Evans Mbambo from Eastern Highlands bricks and textiles, Mrs. Vicky Tongoona From Softrite And The M.D for Timberlex Mr. Stuart Baron. Citing this ever growing technology in Zimbabwe with the President Cde Robert Mugabe donating computers in schools I.T Zimbabwe is looking at holding yet another symposium with a different theme under the open source awareness which will benefit schools and in many ways the cooperate world. That is going to bring people and presenters from all over the country in months or so. ENDS.
